The Smile lyrics were really "in-your-face". Unpopular opinion but it's actually my favorite part about the song. The loud, in your face, guitar intro despite the roofie lyric is very fun. I do enjoy the slow down singing part but it brings me down. I prefer the electric guitar chorus or verses, whatever that part of the song is called.

For me, if Smile had different verses it’d be one of her best songs. The chorus is perfect.

There is a verse in Smile that is odd to me as well even though it is one of my favorite songs of hers. The chorus is great the bridge too, I only don’t like the „blacked out“ part.

The not in Nobody's Fool just blew my mind and I'm still here recovering. So she actually is somebody's fool!? I need answers.
Honestly I cringe at the "rapping" in that song. It doesn't...flow very well IMO. She also predicted the travesty that is 4Real in there. So that's a double negative in a song that now turns out to already have a double negative! And since I just mentioned 4Real: "'Cause I'm for real, are you for real? I can't help myself, it's the way I feel" doesn't bother anyone?
In WYG I hear the "And make it ok" as intentionally pausing the song or feeling like it doesn't cleanly connect to show that something is indeed missing. It works well with the music itself since it slows down to a stop which makes you feel that something is still supposed to be there but it's not and just moves on after she says I miss you. Something that you're expecting to be there isn't. Lyrically something is missing but paired with the way the music flows it feels intentionally "off" to me for effect and her "I miss you" refers to that emptiness.
Another lyric that always drove me nuts in ILY: The reason I love you is all that we’ve been through And that’s why I love you Like you literally just said the reason why you love someone, it’s redundant. Probably a bit nit-picky and douchey to say, but I don't even think that's a good reason to "love" someone.

I don’t like that ILY is a full blown love song then just suddenly goes “even though we didn’t make it through” lol

I don’t like that ILY is a full blown love song then just suddenly goes “even though we didn’t make it through” lol Well, it's kind of like Taylor Swift's Breathe, but way less clever (though that one is about a friend). She tried to portray how a failed relationship doesn't negate her strong feelings, which is quite similar to how Taylor acknowledges that they fell apart, but also affirms how close to her heart the other person is. I think comparing the two songs shows how much Avril lacks in the lyrics department, both songs are quite simple and straight-forward, yet Breathe feels much more intricate in its holistic portrayal of conflicting feelings, I really like how it is constantly flipping between calmly accepting what happened, and getting absolutely overwhelmed by the longing and feelings of guilt on the other hand. On a side note, I'm not sure why Taylor says: "It's 2 A.M, feeling like I just lost a friend", did she attempt to stress the "just" part, implying it feels very fresh still?

ILY is very blunt and sudden, like towards the end shes like “oh yeah we aren’t still together, better mention that” lol. I think I’d like it more if she’d just kept it as a love song!

Maybe in her mind she thought the sudden mention of the fact she’s describing someone she actually isn’t with anymore would act as a surprising twist for the listener. That’s probably the whole idea, is that you’re supposed to think it’s a typical love song and that she’s talking about her husband, but the twist comes in suddenly revealing she’s talking about someone she isn’t with anymore, but that doesn’t mean she still doesn’t love them or that it erased what they had together.

Yeah it does seem like she planned to make it like sort of a twist, but it's just so strangely made. It's almost clever that it's made to feel as such a predictable love song, but the personalized element about how she still cares very much about her ex (exes at this point?) is just so superficially jammed in, so that it has some kind of a "oh and btw" feel, like Katy said, instead of a more profound impact.

Alright, this is weird but this has bothered me since I learned the difference between the two words... This can depend on the viewer's perception too.
"Choke me cause I said so" This can depend on context but if she means like he has his hands around her neck, that is suffocation. If she has something in her mouth, that's different.

I hate having to even explain this but choking during sex is a thing some people get off on, though you’re right that it could also be referring to oral sex as well. Either way it’s a gross lyric IMO and I hate it so much.

Every time I hear this song my mind always filters out the lyrics, like my mind doesn't want to focus on it so that I never really realize the meaning .

I dont think the lyrics for Bad Girl are gross. They are a lot more explicit than her usual stuff but I dont find them too much or inappropriate.
---
I have to say there are not many lyrics that I dont like. Except for that line in Smile and baNANAs... It's more that I like the whole song or I dont. But rarely specific lyrics.

The lyrics in Bad Girl don’t bother me. The thought of Chad writing them does. No thanks.
