Based on the snippets I’ve heard, these are the songs that made most of an impression on me so far and that I’m most excited to hear in full:
- Bois Lie - Kiss Me Like the World is Ending - Avalanche (though I think the chorus seems too repetitive) - F.U. - Dare to Love Me
The ones that I’m eh on and need to hear the full thing: - Cannonball (don’t like how it seems like some kind of DB/HK hybrid?) - Love Sux - Deja Vu - All I Wanted - Break of a Heartache
We’ll see if my opinions change after hearing the full songs.

You see I disagree with you here. I think your argument is based entirely on a matter of taste imo, and not on quality. Yes this new album is heavy and intense, and definitely many people will find it to be too much. But the instrumentation and style of this album is borderline heavy metal. Some people dig that level of intensity, others don’t. I personally think her voice perfectly suits this genre. The bratty, high-pitched shouty punk-bitch marries extremely well against these thrashing guitars and relentless sledge-hammer drums. (Just think Axl Rose with Guns and Roses, Gerard Way with My Chemical Romance, Yungblud, or a more alternative electronic example Alice Glass). Just calling the whole album 12 I Can Do Betters is very unfair and unwarranted imo. I’m a big fan of hard rock, punk, heavy metal and thrash metal, (and many of their pop alternatives), and I was fucking impressed by Love Sux honestly. It’s blatantly obvious that this album has had a lot of time and care put into it by some very competent musicians who really understand this genre. Every song is correctly mastered, rich, tight and full of texture, and importantly cohesive as a whole. And I don’t think Avril has sounded so confident and invigorating in years. The whole element of Punk was to be an assault on your ears. A protest. Hard hitting, aggressive, shouty, garish. It’s a style. It’s not designed to be pretty or light-hearted. And lets be honest here, Avril’s voice was just as loud and shouty on TBDT, and even more “chipmonk-y”, and I’ve personally always dug it either way. Imo, (again a matter of personal taste), I didn’t think her voice was well suited for styles like Memphis soul, jazz and blues such as Tell Me It’s Over and Crush. Those genres tend to suit deeper smoother croon vocals (Adele, Lana Del Rey, Billie Eillish etc.) Avril’s voice is naturally too shrill and jarring, and better suits classic rock genres. I’m not saying those songs aren’t good overall, but I personally didn’t think they payed off very well, nor were those song particularly well written or well made unfortunately. (But props to Avril for trying new things). You may not like the style and direction of Love Sux, but to brush it off as bad is just plain ignorant imo. It was obvious that i was talking about myself, my tastes, my way i see music.. call it ignorant is too much and i don't accept it. Don't agree with it? That's fine, but take my opinion down and just say that it's ignorant or between the lines i'm not educated enough to write about genres/music (''I think your argument is based entirely on a matter of taste imo, and not on quality.) well, take a step back and have some respect. I just think or sorry i must say PREFER The Best Damn Thing more. Is it a problem? Ok. I was not attacking your tastes or the way you see music, nor did I say you’re not educated enough to write about music. Nor was I being disrespectful. And I never said there was anything wrong with liking one album over another. But your argument against Love Sux seemed to be very biased and dismissive. Calling it 12 I Can Do Betters is ignorant to me sorry. I’m very passionate about this style of music so I wanted to give my opinion. Sorry if it stung. And yes your argument did seem to be based on taste so... Plus, while they may seem it at first glance, Love Sux and TBDT are very different from each other. Tbf all her albums are different from each other. And I’m very sad you don’t enjoy Love Sux cuz imo its a bloody good album front to back. One of her best in years. This style of music should make you wanna blast it at full volume on your stereo.

So, after I heard the snippets I couldn't resist and listened to the full in HQ (don't worry I preordered my CD and will from tomorrow on stream it on Spotify). Wanted to share my opinion with you guys on the full songs - although the snippets were already amazing, the full songs are even better, of course. The production and the sound of the songs is so good! It's so full of real instruments and heavy guitars! Listening to the full songs didn't change my mind in general, it's my absolute fav album of her, it's like an amazing mix of UMS and TBDT. I know, it's the nostalgia which also makes me loving the album so much, but it's like literally the album I've been waiting for since UMS. EVERY song is a banger, there's absolutely NO FILLER for me personally! It's just like such a great mixture of her LG/UMS/TBDT, but also a mix of Blink 182, Sum 41 and also some BMTH. It's just so fun listening to it! And I actually have to admit now, that Avalanche and Dare To Love Me, which from the snippets I didn't like, I now think they are amazing. Avalanche is such a surprise, when the bridge started I was like OMG wait what? okay! haha and Dare To Love Me is a classic Avril ballad, which fans from her ballad records will love, I guess. And that's why I also think that it absolutely doesn't sound "samey", I think there is A LOT of variety although it's pop-punk-rock all the way through. So, what can I say - a perfect album from head to toe, I'm literally crying.
Can't wait for all of her fans to hear it.
Awesome dude!! Totally agree!

All I wanted is the biggest disappointment for me. Love Sux and Avalanche the biggest surprise.

Ranking the albums is very difficult for me, UMS and LG are probably still my top 2, Losing Grip is still my favourite song! At the time I didn't love TBDT for the same reason as everyone said, I thought Avril was this super edgy queen and it was too pop and girly, but I appreciate it more now! I actually really love GL other than What The Hell and Smile.. although I do enjoy Smile sometimes! If I could make a mash up of AL and HAW into one super album it would be top tier. Take 17, GYWYL, Bad Girl (although not as sure about that song lately), Hello Heartache, Head Above Water, Birdie, IFILWTD, Tell Me It's Over and Crush. Since that's only 10 songs maybe throw in It Was In Me and Hush Hush 🙈🤷🏼♀️ So I guess my ranking would be: UMS LG GL TBDT AL/HAW Not sure where Love Sux comes in until I listen more but I think I definitely like it over TBDT. But again it's kinda what you're in the mood for, so I more make playlists of types of Avril songs, sometimes I wanna listen to her deeper/heavier/darker songs then sometimes I just want something light. Sorry I hadn't planned for this to be so long 🤣 My album ranking is the same as yours, and yes I like Love Sux over TBDT. Someone said that TBDT was too teenagery and I feel the same. For me LS is a matured TBDT and thats why I like it more. So my ranking: UMS LG GL/Love Sux (GL for me has special meaning but Love Sux is better musically) TBDT HAW AL

I just found a video on YouTube a minute long with just snippets, heard the album opener, I love that scream, I love how it sounds like an alarm going off. Wow it sounds sooo good! Then I turned it off I don’t wanna hear anymore until tomorrow. But I’m so freakin’ excited!

After digesting the album, and that it'll be officially out soon, I think I can give my impressions songs by songs. Little side note: To the discussion over HAW production, I won't comment on it as it is not my expertise, but I do know about music composition, specially orchestral ones, and that album has some of the finnest musical arrengements she has done. Not all songs are equally amazing (Bigger Wow and Love Me Insine fall within the bland side, while DB can be too repetitive), but half of the instrumentation of that record could easily fit within a good soundtrack.
Now the songs:
Cannonball: Incredible beggining to the album. This song is so energetic and so unique. I love the mixture of punk, pop, electronic music. I love when Avril expands her horizons, and this song can easily be my fave. And again, it's a beggining so original that I'm still surprised.
Bois Lie: Meh. One of the most generic pop-rock songs of the record. It sounds like it can be opening to a teen show from Nick or Disney. I heard the demo, and while I think this one is better, it's also less catchy. The la la la liar is catchy as hell tho. I understand why it's on the record (MGK, single potential...), but I don't think I'll comeback to it often.
Bite Me: The best pop-punk song on the record, and one of her best in the area ever. It is an amazing first single. Sadly, it put the bar a little too high.
Love It When You Hate Me: The worst song in the album IMO. Another generic pop-rock song, which also sounds like a disney intro. I don't think any song is objectibly bad in this album, but this is generic af. Don't know why it's the single, Bois Lie was a better option.
Love Sux: I love it. It's Avriliest song on the album. It's TBDT but glitchy. I enjoy a lot the lyrics ("Do you think I'm stupid? I keep killing Cupid", "Let's play a game of tic tac toe, imma gonna make all my Exes say OH"). Top 3 for me.
Kiss Me Like The World Is Ending: I'm torn. I don't dislike it, but I don't think it's a strong song. The armonies are good, and I enjoy it... sometimes. I think I'm just tired of the same sound by the time I reach this song, it's more generic than Bite Me or Love Sux.
Avalanche: Love it. It's a continuation of the themes of HAW, and has an amazing mixture of styles. It gives me really personal vibes, and it's a change of pace for this album while still keeping it in the same atmosphere.
Deja Vu: I get tired of it. I like how it starts, and how aggresive the ending is. But I just don't like it, for me it gets tiresome at the middle. Again, too many songs sounding similar and this one is not one of the strongest.
F.U.: I kinda like it, it's probably the second to best punk song behind Bite Me. The whole misery business vibe gives it it's own personality in the album.
All I Wanted: This song is only saved by a couple of melodies and the participation of Mark. It feels half-done at times. I enjoy the melody, I like it better than Bois Lie and LIWYHM, but I don't think I'll be back to it a lot.
Dare To Love Me: It's not her best ballad, but it's the Avril I like the most. The way the song is constructed is very interesting, and her voice in brilliant. BTW, I would always love this one because it's the only one without the weird effect on her voice. And it's self-written, which is always a plus for me.
Break of a Heartache: Cannonball lil sis. It's less of everything, but it has a lot of energy, and it does its work: make want to replay the album and start with Cannonball again. Self-written and very interesting song. Not the best, but more unique than half of the record.

it's funny how many people refer to Kiss Me Like The World Is Ending and Deja Vu as fillers, and I really liked them. In general, I felt the energy of this album. Super.

Ok so i managed to listen to the album in "high quality" so here comes the long post lol. sorry in advance xd
- Cannonball: love the intro, very anthemic. It does remind me indeed of HK with the electronic vibes in the verses, but more like in a Kesha, 2010 katy perry meets blink 182 if that makes sense. Those electronic sounds are very 2010 to me. It's a good opener. Classic avril chorus.
- Bois Lie: I learned to love it actually. Although generic pop-rock track it is still catchy. The final version is much better than the leaked one.
- Bite Me: Even tho i like it i don't understand why so many people love it so much. It still has flaws like the piercing begining or the repetitive bridge. I do think it's a good lead single BUT to be honest, any other punk track on this record could've done the trick. I don't find it any different from the other ones in the album. It does have a powerful chorus (not the opening of the song tho).
- Love It When You Hate Me: It's actually still one of my favorites, probably bc it stands out a little bit. I love the hip-hop-pop-rock mixture, i always did love it, and i love rap too so having this little rap section from blackbear really works for me. I don't get the hate tbh. It is probably the poppiest track on the record and the most radio friendly but in my opinion is done pretty well. Let's all remeber that it's a collab and you just can't erase someone else's esence or style if he's part of the song, lol. I think it was right as the second single.
- Love Sux: Probably the catchiest one in the album. I LOVE the "na na na not a another breakup" Like.... when i read the lyrics i thought i wouldn't like it BUT oh man... the way she starts the chorus and it makes you think she will sing "na na na na" only and it connects with "not another breakup" is just really catchy. I know its not a big deal or maybe somethin small, but it's very playful and it's genius in my opinion. It reminds of a 00s late 90s pop-punk song. Like an american pie soundtrack song, it's very anthemic and iconic. One of the best one in the album indeed. It's her favorite and yet again, her taste hasn't failed us. It's a masterpiece tbh. it's very TBDT but with stronger melodies imo. It's actually the one that made me want to listen to it again. This should've been the lead single to be honest, and if not, it deserves to be a single with an iconic video ala kpop. Please Av!! The one thing i didn't like is modsun in the bridge.... VERY unnecesarry. If it was gang vocals, like multiple people, then yes. But i only hear him and it's as if he's joining her to sing at her exes and its a bit cringey to me, i'll get used to it, but not a fan him in this song.
- Kiss Me Like The World Is Ending: first impression was: It was ok, not the higlight of the album. I don't like that modsun starts the song honestly...The chorus was a bit disappointing to me. The verses were better. I think i'll learn to love it more after a few listens. It is catchy and i love the "will you meet me up in Heaven" that was cute. And i also lvoe the high notes and the final climax.
- Avalunch: It's the only one that gave me chills. I liked it, it does remind me of Bones but honestly after so many praises i expected something "more" (?). I find the chorus not being as catchy as classic avril songs have. But i love how in the chorus "inside" kinda goes into a minor note (not sure cause i have no idea xD) but it does give it a slightly darker twist. I love the climax and the isntrumentation tho. I do think it misses an epic high note somewhere. It's still one of the best ones in the album but maybe because it stands out (?). I do think it's going to be fan favorite. I kinda hate the "shake it shake it shake it" part tho...
- Deja Vu: I love the lyrics hahaha, they're very funny. The chorus is nothing special in terms of melodies but i love the instrumentation. The post chorus reminds me of UMS while the rest of the songs it's very TBDT. The bridge is surprisingly quiet lol. I think this is the song where she was clapping in the mic with those weird gloves (?).
- F.U.: it reminds of the brigter side of UMS, like EBBY or freak out. The chorus is pretty catchy. The bridge is similar to Deja Vu, they alsmost feel like sister songs to me.
- All I Wanted: It doesn't sound like an Avril song, but i guess it makes sense haha. Nothing bad to say about it. Their voices blend pretty well together. I love the final post chorus and it only lasted like 8 seconds... they should've made more of that honestly. I think it would've made the song better. It does end abruptly for my taste.
- Dare To Love Me: The biggest disappointment since Love Me Insane. As basic as Hush Hush. It feels like a demo version for HAW.... it has nothing special, boring chorus, boring chords, boring instrumentation. Ugh... i had trusted you feldy and mod. She was right about not wanting to put this on the album. It's by far one of her worst ballads ever. It's not a bad song, don't get me wrong... BUT even Remember When gets me more excited than this. Who would've thought the filler will be the ballad lol. Its listenable but idk.... At end of the song i realised it reminds me of an older Taylor Swift type of ballad. obviously it has more guitars but the melody and stuff, it reminds of the not so great ballads from Taylor. or maybe it's just bc its very generic idk. As i said, it's not that i hate it but it's definitely the weakest track on the entire album. what a shame....
- Break Of A Hartache: This song... OH MAN. I love it. I reminds A LOT of the early 00s pop punk scene. I can't put my figer on right now but the closes my mind can get is One Week by Barenaked Ladies but rockier. It's very soundtracky. The type of song you put in the middle of the movie where the protagonists are "pursuing" something and it's some kidn of montage with scenes and this is the background song. I know that may sound bad but to me that's good. the more i listen to the more soundtrack vibes it gives me. Maybe it's not the most original but i love how fast it is. lol.
Overall i must say it's a good album. I'm not sure if it will beat LG or UMS or even TBDT for me BUT it's a very good album. There's not a single song that i dislike even with Dare To lvoe me there, it's not bad, just boring and basic. But there's nothing in this album that i hate SO that's a good sign. Is it samey? OH YES. First listen you can't even tell the difference between the songs, except the singles and maybe the 2 ballads. You remember some parts but you need to get used to them, i guess thats normal. But once you get the "samey" turns into cohesive. even the DTLM has some rock in it at the end SO it's not so out of place. And there's avalunch to balance the album a bit more.
It's also probably one of her "easiest" albums to listen to, by that i mean you don't really have to be in a certain mood to listen to it, like when you need to turn into an emo kid to be able to listen to UMS or a bratty girl to listen to TBDT. It's very listenable even tho it goes pretty hard with the guitars. I think it's very good for playlisting and having fun. It's the first time she explained the sound in an accurate way. wow.
I won't rank the songs yet but overall i'm very pleased. Maybe not blown away since there is nothing really "epic" in the album. But i was afraid it would turn out into a IKTRS 2.0 but it turned out better so i'm happy with that. I'm glad this time there's no mess sonically, it's just pure pop-punk. It's a good album.

Just gave this a listen. Pop-punk hasn't been my thing since my late teens/early 20s so my expectations were low, especially hearing some of the early releases, only Bite Me was ok for me and even then that had that shrill hook.
Stand outs for me are: Avalanche (not as good as i expected after seeing comments but still good) F.U Dare To Love Me Break of a Heartache (very early Sum 41 vibe)
Just found these to be the most mature and the ones I'll probably listen to once in a while.
Surprised by how many don't love DTLM. It's a very Avril mid tempo, love how the melody (not sure if it was from verse or bridge, need to listen again) is used as backing vocal near the end, really catchy. Also not sure why it's being called a ballad.
Overall it's probably better than I anticipated as it's a little heavier and alternative in part and there's no cheerleading sounds ha! Wish she would be a little clever with the lyrics or use a little more imagery (IFILWTD, Birdie!)
She's clearly in a good place right now and I'm happy for her.

Ok I just listened to the album and review it in full later but I had to share I was in tears listening to Dare to love me from end to finish especially when you are going through these emotions as well... It's like really raw and her vocals are amazing. I understand why Feldy told Av to put it on the record...it's on par with Goodbye... Like the emotions are real! I'll rate the rest but I just wanted to say this track is a lil understated gem!!!

I loved DTLM, i listened to it twice on my initial listening of the album, i don't get why is labeled as boring, this song represents her vulnerability and the insecurity (the parts where she asks over and over to her partner if she dare to tell her that he loves her but to not say it if he didn't mean it) quite simple in its lyrics structure but effective i must say and it is pretty coherent with the them of the album on why love sux.
I loved the bridge of the title track and break of a heartache is pure energy! There are some parts in these songs that reminds me of the band "a day to remember with their song "If it means a lot to you" and F.U reminds me a lot too of misery business!
The only featuring i loved is "All i wanted" it gives me nostalgic vibes hahah
I really hope the deluxe version comes out soon, cause i want to dig more in this sound from her, i loved her voice, in some parts is kinda squeaky indeed but its not that irritating, i just have to immerge a little in the other tracks but i aldo love the lyrics in deja vu "a*** living in a castle" lol only her she could come out with such lyrics and get away with it haha and from pjamas and bananas radios its all.

Hey everybody, I'm so excited to finally share this with you all! I just got a chance to listen to the album in full and of course have opinions. I'll try to keep it brief (like the album itself!). Cannonball: In my opinion this is a really great opener. It's kind of bizarre with it's electronic creative fun. However I wouldn't say it's a good song on its own in that sense, but nevertheless a great opener. It got me really excited the rest would be as creative (sadly this mostly wasn't the case). Bois Lie: And this is where it already drops a bit for me. A very radio friendly track which isn't bad but also not very creative. The one part I did really like is the back and forth and the "twist" that girls lie too which really made the boy bashing much more of a fun affair rather than just bratty. Bite Me: I don't think I need to say much about this one since it's been out for a while. I will say it has grown on me since its release and I actually think it's one of the best songs on the album. Consistent attitude, rocky. Love Sux: Rocky and fun, also very radio friendly. Love It When You Hate Me: Again very very radio friendly yet in this case on the border of boring to me, not much to say since it was out already. Kiss Me Like The World is Ending: This one reminded me a lot of something that could have been on TBDT, I think it's one of the best songs on the album on first listen. Avalanche: Again very radio friendly but in a different way. It sounds like it could have been on HAW. The breakdown was unexpected and enjoyable to me. Deja Vu: Really good IMO, sounds a LOT like her first two albums. The Range Rover line got a legitimate laugh out of me. F.U.: Of the radio friendly type songs this one goes the hardest and is the best IMO. All I Wanted: The worst song on the album which I really wasn't expecting. It comes off very awkward and boring to me and I honestly don't exactly know why. It feels like some kind of demo. Dare To Love Me: This one sounds like a HAW Reject or a GL song with better production depending on if you're a glass half full or empty type of person. Fairly generic and I don't have any specific thoughts yet. Break of a Heartache: Again a song which sounds very much like something from TBDT, a very fun close. Overall I just don't get along well with the short songs which really hampers my enjoyment of this album. It prevents me from really getting into things and IMO often breeds repetitiveness that lacks variety. Sadly I think this is a bit the case on this album though to its credit I will say quite a few of the songs have a small (creative) surprising section. It is also more alternative than I was expecting and matches what she was describing which is commendable IMO. I think it's among her best produced albums which bumps it up (Mod Sun's backing vocals felt forced to me when they showed up though). Overall I think it's an objectively decent album that most fans will love, and has I think even quite a bit of mainstream potential as evident by how many tracks I feel are "radio friendly", but for my own tastes I feel it's lacking a certain level of creativity/variety. Most of it just sounds so similar which is a good thing for cohesion but can also be rather dull (to me at least) and while there are a few clever lyrics most of it seems a bit undercooked to me.
It's difficult for me to say where it'll land after this first listen but I think most songs are solidly in the middle of the pack of everything she's ever done which overall is good but sadly I also find there are no true stand outs that I really want to listen to much more or will get a slot next to my favorites of her (perhaps Bite Me, Kiss Me Like The World is Ending, Deja Vu or F.U. will end up there after more listens). Happy release day(s) everybody! I'm looking forward to reading all your impressions and seeing what you think. It's been quite a year, that's for sure. I hope you all enjoy the pay off.
