I'm not surprised about the top 4 at all. I guess I hadn't expected GL to be above HAW, but that's about the only "surprise".

Personally, I would put TBDT in between HAW and AL, and swap UMS and LG. Which is a first for me; I usually always put UMS at the top of my album rating, but this time, when listening to the albums recently, I actually ended up enjoying LG more (which really shocked me!). LG has so many wonderful little details. A guitar riff here, a baritone guitar there, some nice little drum fills... Over the past year or two, I've come to really love details like that. They can really turn a good song or album into a fantastic one. And LG definitely did that better than any of Avril's other albums (most of which I actually found really lacking in such interesting little details).

Technically, TBDT definitely is top 3 worthy, but it's just too bratty, too cheerleader-ish, too pop-punk, and vocally too chipmunky for my taste. Apart from the ballads, it sounds rather repetitive to me. Two of the three ballads just don't do anything for me, I find them quite cheesy, actually. I can see why people love the album, but it's just not really for me anymore (I used to love it as a kid, though - TBDT was what got me into Avril).

I can also totally see why people don't enjoy GL as much, but while it certainly has its flaws (mainly the production and the repetitiveness), I still enjoy it for what it is. It's just so easy to listen to. I do like HAW, but I don't really get any ease with that album, which is why I ended up putting it below GL in my rating.

AL is just a mess. I mean, it's kind of entertaining if you don't take it seriously. But still, it honestly feels like a bunch of amateurs half-heartedly tried to make some music, but couldn't agree which direction to go into. Even the tripod-songs don't really do it for me. Most of them are just nice at best, there's only one song that I really enjoyed.

LS has a lot of great songs and great energy, but it really doesn't reach the masterpieces that are LG and UMS. I also have to say that I wouldn't be surprised if I, at least, ended up rating LS lower for BA's next rating, once I've heard it enough times and it doesn't have the "it's brand-new music!" bonus anymore. What just really downgrades LS for me is the mixing (or is it the production?). Honestly, it's pretty bad imo. It sounds so... too much. Too "crisp", too loud/full, like every instrument is fighting to be in the foreground. It's hard for me to listen to, much more so than HAW, which actually sounds quite relaxing in comparison. And the vocal production... I just don't get why they added all this autotune to Avril's voice when she doesn't need it. If it wasn't for these flaws, LS might be my absolute favourite album. But alas...
