It honestly bugs me that this conversation comes up just about every year or album release with her. If she wanted to retire she would have done so probably after getting sick. She doesn’t technically need to keep working but she continues to because it’s clear she still loves making music. She even just said in her story how pumped she is for tour. As somebody else said, even the times she was married she still didn’t have any kids, and now it looks even less likely considering she’s near 40 and doesn’t appear to be even dating anyone? And even if she did decide to have a family, that doesn’t stop anyone from still having a career. As Tom mentioned, if she ever one day decides to take a step back or retire altogether, she’s earned it and it’s her right to do so if she wants to. But she’s in no way indicated she’s headed in that direction at all, I don’t know why people say this constantly. Shes doing a greatest hits tour because it’s the only way to market her in the US. She’s near 40 and been in music for 20+ years. She’s a nostalgia artist. At this point it’s the right way to market her to a general audience because her hey day is otherwise long over. She’s been struggling to tour here since post-TBDT. Has nothing to do with her retiring. ...the only way to make big shows in the US. She has a solid fanbase for small venues in the US. I still prefer the idea of Let Go 20th anniversary shows, just like Alanis did for the 25th anniversary of Jagged Little Pill. She sang the whole album (13 songs) + 5 other songs + intros acapella. She also performed in huge places in the US on this tour and brought Garbage as the opening act. |

Well the ship for a LG 20th anniversary tour has sailed at this point. They should have done it back in 2022. With the 20th anniversary of UMS this year they probably thought why not just combine the anniversaries and do a GH tour. I think she’ll sell more tickets if the show is billed as GH tour rather than an anniversary tour for one specific album. How many casual fans really remember LG as the album with songs like Complicated and Sk8er Boi? It was a huge record, don’t get me wrong, but it doesn’t have the same name recognition as something like Jagged Little Pill.

To be honest I think a lot of the general public and casual fans do remember a good chunk of LG. That album was absolutely huge. An anniversary tour for it would’ve sold very well imo. I’ve seen other artists do anniversary tours for FAR less iconic albums. I know the fanbase generally hypes up UMS but LG is far and away her most recognised album outside of the fanbase. Like we literally can’t overstate how big it was at the time
but yeah, a greatest hits tour does the job anyway. Plus she was in the middle of the LS era during the LG anniversary so the timing wasn’t right

If the GH had a bonus disc or something with like 2 unreleased tracks from each era could be a fun way to celebrate the UMS anniversary AND still do the GH in a more interesting way.
