I think the TTSMU tour burned Avril out… when she was writing her first album she clearly put her all into it, then she was overworked. Now I think she simply puts out what she enjoyed creating, and I think a lot of times she enjoys not creating and having a break. Taylor on the other hand I think is a workaholic, Avril just wants to have fun. Which is reflected in the quantity and quality of her music. She’ll create just enough to put out an album, and if the songs don’t come to her fast she abandons them and does something else. I really think that first tour messed her up. Her work ethic is nothing like Taylor’s

She’ll create just enough to put out an album, and if the songs don’t come to her fast she abandons them and does something else. I really think that first tour messed her up. Her work ethic is nothing like Taylor’s I disagree. I think she just had more time to work on LG and she also had more help. When it was time to do UMS she didn’t have as much time and the label wanted it out fast to capitalize on the success of LG. TBDT was also done pretty quickly because it just came easily to her. As we know she spent years on GL due to label issues. So idk that that has anything to do with it. Each album has had its own circumstances she had to work under. LG was a unique experience for her because there was no outside pressure, no one knew who she was yet, and there was no precedent to follow. She was free to take as long as she needed and do what she wanted, more or less. Idk that it necessarily “burnt her out” but it was an experience she’ll never have again, every album following it had pressures from the label, pressures to make fans happy, appeal to the general public, have radio hits, etc. Her team of collaborators changed every album too, and every couple albums she was on a different label. That’s certainly going to have an impact on how the record gets made. I honestly don’t think anyone has a work ethic like Taylor and that’s ok. That’s how she got to where she is and why no one else is at that level. But I wouldn’t say Avril doesn’t have a work ethic, she does appear to work hard on her albums and she works until they get it right (at least in their opinion). She’s always working behind the scenes on stuff we don’t know about until later too. I do think Avril genuinely still enjoys making music, as she’s said multiple times, even all these years later, and she enjoys working. But she just has the freedom to do it on her own terms now and work at her own pace, which maybe she also needs to do now because of her health, who knows.

Honestly, I think almost no one nowadays works their eras as much as Avril does. Fans complain a lot and it's part of the process of being famous... but she's an exception among veteran singer these days. The fact that she continues to perform on TV, attend events, awards, and tour worldwide (not only North America and Europe) speaks to her dedication. People say she's lazy about performing, and I know where it comes from and I agree about this part to some extent . But I think that apart from this, she works hard to provide content and also works hard behind the scenes.
Just look at Beyoncé. Her last two albums didn’t have a single music video or TV performance. Kelly Clarkson for her last album also hadn't release a single music video. I’m not sure if most users on Bandaids follow the music scene broadly, but despite some issues and complains we all share and agree about Avril career (like long hiatuses and not choosing the best songs) she consistently delivers more content than most when she’s in an active era. I wouldn’t underestimate her work ethic specially comparing to someone like Taylor... sorry but almost no one can match Taylor’s level of career dedication.
When it comes to quality, this ideia of "quality album" is definitely up for debate. Love Sux is considered a quality album by critics and has received a few award nominations but people still haven't enjoyed it. Maybe fans just want her to deliver exactly what they’re expecting, as the idea of "quality" varies a lot here.

I mean, It might not be her magnum opus, but to say Love Sux is disliked by people is bonkers. Most fans consider it her best album since either TBDT or GL, and many (I’ve spoken to a lot of fans and/or have seen their feedback) consider it top 3 in her discography.
I’m not saying it’s everyone’s favorite and I know some people dislike it for it’s immature lyrics, but I’d say the overall consensus is that Love Sux is a quality album and one of her best by both fans and critics.
If you’re talking about the general public, well, they are pretty much unaware of anything Avril has put out after either Girlfriend or WTH. I don’t expect anyone who isn’t a fan to know any of her deep cuts after TBDT, which is a shame since it’s usually her best stuff.
She’s working at her own pace these days and not feeling rushed or influenced by any of the trends of how music is currently being released. I’m fine with it, as long as she delivers a quality album I can wait years if I have to.

I love Love Sux and honestly think it’s one of her best albums. But I’ve noticed a lot of fans complaining and demanding so-called 'quality albums' after its release, which makes me assume they didn’t enjoy it as much. Not saying it expresses the general feeling of course but even here on Bandaids, I’ve seen a few people with mixed feelings towards it.
But at the end of the day, there will always be complainers, no matter what she puts out.

For me Love Sux is her best most consistent album for years and it's had a lot of replay value, I still very much enjoy it.

My only problem with love aux was that it lacked that powerful followup single like TBDT's when you're gone. She should have worked really hard for atleast a powerful midtempo (not necessarily ballad) track as follow up to bite me.

Many fans (including me) can never be happy 100% I guess...

I think an album can be good and still have it's criticisms. Nothing in life is perfect.

The way I see it is LS fixed a lot of the issues she had been experiencing since GL era (labels forcing her to include songs that didn't fit her vision, tracklists that were all over the place, lack of passion for the final product, etc.) but I wouldn't want to see another album like it. And there are still things that can be improved upon, like what many fans by now have said about writing about other topics, less bratty/boy bashing lyrics, less polished production on her vocals, etc. But LS was a step overall in the right direction for sure.

TomX if most of her fans were still teenagers they would have said Love Sux is her best work yet 😂.

For me Love Sux is one of the best albums. Fast, fun, and super pop punk. I love it. And Bite Me.. wow, it's crazy. I still enjoy watching the videoclip.

At first I thought I didn’t like LS. But after listening to it some of the songs are soooo good. Overall I like the whole album honestly. Dare to love me was an amazing touch too.
Regarding the new album, in a new interview she says “Going through the process of choosing was a trip down memory lane. These songs are such a big part of who l am and my life and career. I am looking forward to going back to the studio now. Feeling very inspired to get into the creative process for the new album.”. Hopefully this inspires her to bring back the sound of her first two albums, I’d be so happy. More grungy Avril please

It's interesting how she mentioned the album without even being questioned about it. Hopefully she can manage this next era a little better. Love Sux was fun until the tour started, then she kind of gave up on the album. But at least for me, the era was handled in a better way than her last 2.

It will take another period from geological time scale to release an album. Avril why? 😭
