I'm afraid she will take some time off. There's no signs of a new era anytime soon. She doesn't seem inspired at all. I also think she might be a bit disappointed with how things turned out. I mean yes, LS was succesfull, GH tour was even more succesfull, people finally starting to give her credits, she got 2 stars of fame, a GH album. Yet she doesn't have a grammy, she didn't chart on B100 at all this era, no significant viral moment apart from bits here and there. My point is that..."what's the point" anyway? She doesn't have to hurry anymore, the GP is not expectant for a comeback like her fans, or like GP always goes crazy when Adele comes back. She will likely not get a number 1 hit ever again, who knows if she can even chart at all. She did all she could with LS which is very radio friendly, full of visuals, somehow a story, and she only was able to get some older fans back and create a couple of new ones (its still impresive dont get me wrong) but she never had her Espresso moment, and i think is very difficult she will have it.
So i'm guessing she is taking it VERY easily. She doesn't have to "establish" herself in the industry anymore like Sabrina has been fighting for years. Avril is already a legend. So I'm guessing she chooses to not stress too much about new music since she is doing it because she loves it anyway, not because she needs it.
So I'm afraid she is indeed in this mindset, EVEN if she says she's inspired to go the studio. To do what exactly? Another boy bashing album? I think she's tired of that too. LS had recent events that inspired the story as well as a LOT of influence from Feldy and Modsun, mgk, youngblud, the new pop-punk scene. But it's gone already. Everyone is after this vintage 60-70s sound now.
We will be VERY lucky if we get a new single in 2025 :')

I think she’s probably not inspired by what she came up with over the last couple years she’s been working. A lot of it was probably inspired by the Mod breakup and that’s so far in the past now it’s practically irrelevant and not worth giving time to or stirring up old drama. If the leaks we heard like Dick, Boy at the Rock Show, Seeing the Signs, or Rap Star were what she was coming up with, I don’t think she was very inspired.
I feel like she may have been going in a certain direction prior to the tour (hanging out with Tyga and writing a song called Rap Star may have inspired her to lean into rap/hip hop more) and then once the tour happened and how well it was received, it made her realize she should go back to her roots and do what she’s good at. However, we also know she worked a ton with All Time Low, which suggests we were getting LS 2.0. But now pop punk has kind of had its moment so maybe she felt it was time to move on from that.
I think she is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Her bread and butter is pop rock and pop punk which kind of had its time and the trends change so quickly. But what’s popular now is not really Avril’s style so what is she to do really? I don’t think she’s a chart chaser or awards chaser, and she will do the kind of music she wants regardless, but I think she cares to some degree about modernizing herself and keeping things fresh. She never does the same album twice.

Olivia Rodrigo has a sound that has a lot of Avrils vibe and is hugely successful. It would be fun to hear her do that kind of thing. It would feel current but still very her. It's actually weird, Olivia almost seems on an island doing her own thing without everyone copying her despite her success

Olivia’s music does have an Avril vibe but her sound is more ‘80s IMO.

So I just had a look at the first page of this thread where I had summarized all we knew about this album and as far back as 2023 she was talking about how the album was “almost done” and had kept saying she planned to release it in 2024, which of course never happened. Now the way she’s talking about it is as if she’s starting over and that whole album is completely scrapped/never happened. It’s very strange.

I hope she’s back to the drawing board tbh.

I don't understand why mainstream artists are ignoring the demand from pop rock fans. Olivia is doing it and I like how she has her niche, a mix of 90s grunge singersmgwriter/00s pop punk.
Avril should get on it before it dies out like the pop punk era. It should have been an even bigger era for her. I think she doesn't know what to write about because she clearly has a lot of genres she's interested in and has never been afraid of mixing genres before. Unless, there's other stuff holding her back. It just seems like the same story is repeating. The GH Tour was a really good idea because we'd be dying over here lol

I mean, a good song is always going to be a good song. Probably she feels like she does not have what she's looking for. I strongly believe that she is capable of it still but she hasn't found the right people to work around this time. Doing what other are not doing is probably better than following trends. Even tho LS had its momento in the jungle of nostalgia and pop punk hype she needs to do something innovative this time around. Willow's album is a good "nu post-grunge" statement that would suit Avril's sound and image. I would opt for that direction if I was her but I'm here sitting waiting wishing for AL8 whenever it comes.

I really do hope we get new single and album in 2025 though

some introspective songs about her 40 years of experience in this world, the whole industry and how you need to stay strong and true to yourself to not gow crazy, heartbreak (instead of boybashing), friendship and loneliness. I mean... she has so many topic she could write about and make a great soft acoustic pop-rock album, But she just won't open up her heart lol... she is private indeed. its scary sometimes haha.

Kelly Clarkson is climbing high on Spotify from 17 millions (currently 21 millions) to 40-50 millions by the end of Christmas season.
For AL8, I hope Avril will: 1. Hire reputable writers on all the songs, no more self-writing songs. 2. Add 15-18 songs to the original album. 3. 3 months after original album, release a deluxe album (make the name unique, not just "deluxe") with 3-5 new songs. 4. Maybe only 1-2 collab this time, Avril obviously gonna make the collab songs as singles. 5. No more nostalgia or comeback effect to sell the album. 6. A ballad lead single, with strong lyrics. Her old fans are tired with her boy bashing songs, and the young generations prefer sad break up songs. Or maybe just do what Charli xcx did, her songs isn't my taste, but the tunes kinda catchy.

I agree that we all have our own personal expectations, mostly us, regular fans, are bored with rebellious songs, mostly we want her lyrics to mature. I love Love Sux, but she has enough of that in her discography. And this nostalgia theme that started with LG20 is already boring. If we got new/old songs it would be cool, but we really didn't have almost anything new.

I think she doesn't need to follow trends. She has her sound, as all bands usually do.
You can't go from metal to hip-hop (just an example). Avril has her fan base, and if she follows the sound that has created that fan base, she can keep making music.
It's sad, but the music industry is very fast paced, and the major labels are always promoting new singers/bands to make more money. You can't expect to always be at the top of the charts, or even, on a list. Some people compare Avril to Taylor Swift, but it's a really hard thing to achieve (and rare). The charts are controlled by the labels; they put on there what they want to promote to the general public. That's how it works, unfortunately.
Avril Lavigne is known all over the world, so if she keeps putting out new music for her fans, she can keep making music for many years if she wants to.
And I think she's starting over in the studio because of the breakup with Mod Sun. I bet she wrote several songs with him, so obviously she must be starting over.
I bet the next album, if she wants to keep the fan base she has regained again, will have a sound similar to some of the first three albums. Whatever she does (whether she sticks with pop-punk or moves into more grunge or alternative rock) it will be good. And it's something that connects with their fan base. Almost all of us are here for this sound.
And come on, the lyrics aren't that bad. It's Avril Lavigne's music, I wouldn't expect something “poetic”, because that's just not who she is!!!!

If I were her, I'd adopt a female pop-rock singer-songwriter style similar to that of Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow, Meredith Brooks, or Natalie Imbruglia for her next album. It's a reputable style for a woman of her age, and it aligns with both her personal style and influences: more introspective with some female rage touches, yet still rock-oriented.
By the way, this whole "nostalgia era" is so boring. We keep talking about what we want for her all the time just because we're also bored.

Self-written songs are a key part of her brand, and she’ll never move away from that. Honestly, I think some of her self-penned songs can be even better than those with more co-writers. Not to generalize but some actually are better. So to me it’s not about who writes the songs but about having a better taste to capture and pick the best ones, regardless of who wrote them.
