Random Avril Discussion Thread

Yeah I don’t see why he’d lie about it. Agree with the reasons above then also throw in potential immature jealousy (she was (is) gorgeous and hugely successful) and realistically she does seem to be an either love her or hate her personality - her friendships aren’t often very long lived. It’s not that unbelievable that they wouldn’t like her for whatever reason.

Just catching up on everything, and wow I can't believe Deryck got DEATH THREATS and harrassment to the point he had to hire security. That's nuts. Poor guy -admittedly I've never followed much about him other than his marriage to Avril and some of the publicity around the time he nearly died from alcohol, and him getting remarried. I had no idea about the other stuff. And I get that especially back then there was a lot of sexism/misogyny in the punk/rock scene, but irregardless of that it's also wild to me that his band would behave that way. And not that it should matter, but it's not like Avril was a fledgling singer either, she was extremely successful and if anything the marriage gave them publicity. AND SHE WAS A FAN OF THEM. THEY HATED SOMEONE WHO WAS A FAN OF THEIRS BECAUSE THEY WERE WORRIED ABOUT THEIR STREET CRED. Sorry I'm kinda ranting, the whole thing just makes me so sad and angry for Deryck and Avril. So unfairly puts Deryck in an incredibly awkward no-win situation: speak out about their behavior and risk his entire career or try to smooth things over and downplay it but in the process not stick up for his wife.

I wonder if that situation has anything to do with her... self-proclaimed love for partying, sleeping late, and living the "rock star" lifestyle. Like, after spending such a long time trying to prove you do have a place in that scene and wanting your peers to take you seriously, I can see how that would possibly lead to her having been very up front with her lifestyle. Cause it's often seemed like she's always trying to show off how much of a "rocker" she is. IIRC that all kinda started around when she and Deryck got married.


Edit: after reading that article that has some quotes from his book about the divorce, my mind immediately went to the lyrics of Push:

That's basically the opposite of what Deryck said was the problem lol (not saying he's lying I'm sure multiple things compounded into it).

I just discovered this video. Its a guy analyzing vocals and explaining pitch correction and autotune with a software and in this video Hes going through an old TV Performance of im with you. I love his videos.

I had the same thoughts. I think she’s also been lucky though, and maybe luckier than most in her position, to have people looking out for her from the beginning. Examples being her parents, Lauren Christy, her management at Nettwerk, etc. Unlike say Britney whose parents wanted her to be their cash cow since day 1 and nobody ever looked out for that poor girl. There’s so many people who unfortunately got saddled with poor managers or other shady industry types who wanted to use them or take advantage of their naïveté. That’s not to say Avril probably hasn’t had those types in her life, and she’s dealt with her share of shitty label people, but it was critical early on for her to have people in her corner to protect her. Being surrounded by those older women especially like Lauren and her manager (Shauna I think her name was?) was incredibly important. I think having band members close in age to her that were like her friends helped her stay grounded too. She got to still do normal things with them off the road instead of just being alone all the time.

it's also very similar to The Best Damn Thing, at least the rythm lol. I love it <3
