I like Girlfriend, and i like the verses they came up with, they're pretty BUT.... it just doesn't match with the chorus at all LOL. I think they just wanted a big name associated since they're a new group but still.... Also there's something about the instrumentation they did for the chorus that also make it sound a bit weird. They're voices are way too weak for such a belty song, purely sang on chest voice.
I was waiting for this, it's somehow what i expected. Where are the years of the 50s and 60s when artists were releasing covers of other singers and making them into hits?
Anyway, with that being said, i hope they get some recognition and success with this song, bc that will benefit Avril as well.
This was obviously the idea of some producer of the group who's probably a fan.

Agreed, it was almost like a karaoke session. Full disclaimer though, I'm not a very big fan of the genre they're in so it's tough to judge
Is there an English translation of the verses? From what I could tell, only the chorus and a few parts were in English

Avril did not share it on her stories, which she usually did when she collabed with sb else for a project. For Boyfriend she did have songwriting credits based on what i read. I wonder if she doesnt really like the final product of that one or she just thinks its unnecessary to share the song (and potentially get involved w the whole DrLuke thing).
Regardles, imo the song is a chill pop take at Girfriend. The original is fiery and fierce and sassy. Pow version has that modern pop vibe and sound to it. I think they did a fine job overall, just that I personally prefer the style of the original Girlfriend.

Could be just another L8er boi situation, where they just talked to her management to get the permission to use GF, not directly to her. Maybe she doesn't even know that song exits LOL. But i think it's pretty clear she was not involved in this more than just having credits to the song.
The theory of Dr Luke i'm not so sure about it, POW is a new group, they don't have such a huge and influential fanbase that could bring up the whole dr luke situation. If this cover was done by BTS, Seventeen, StaryKids or whatever succesfull group, for sure GF would have made headlines again.
Actually, some people are comparing Rose's APT with Avril's Girlfriend and it definitely has some influence. The song is categorized as pop-punk and pop-rock. I don't think it will bring much attention but i don't think anyone would blame Avril for working with DrLuke in 2006....LIKE come on... Katy's situation is very different.
But knowing Avril, she does love to be unproblematic, which we all appreciate here LOL.

I'm now at the part where he said he wanted to fix what has been broken in his marriage to Avril and gave her an ultimatum but she said it was just over. They grew apart and she became distant towards him he said. He really was like: What just happened? My marriage is over in a sec, he expected her to call when he packed a few things and left but she didn't. So much for his happy ending.  |

I watched the TBDTour DVD yesterday and oh my god... I mean its fun but what the hell is going on with the mix and the cut?! You can even see at one point that they must have used two different recordings during Hot because the hand position doesnt match after the cut although I only found information that it was recorded on one night and during the first verse of WYG she starts moving her lips on point but it doesnt end on point and theres no cut. I don't know, thats strange, she doesnt need that kind of editing.
But anyway.. I had a bad day yesterday, I felt so exhausted and I felt so much better after. Love Avril

Love Avril I love it, but what really bothers me is her chipmunk voice, which doesn't really sound like that at all in other videos. I don't know why they did it. Obviously this is a DVD. Just for comparing But I want to add that the acoustic Losing Grip in Toronto sounds absolutely wonderful to me and those raindrops in the background add to the atmosphere. |
