I think the classics and upbeat songs are great and make for a fun show, but I also like some other things mixed in as well. She did a little of that this time with HAW and IFILWTD. If the show was longer, I think it would allow her to give the fans what she thinks they want and also explore some "fan favorites" that don't get much play that maybe she also likes and get into ballads/have quieter moments in the show. I'm thinking there could be songs she would like to perform, but does not because they don't keep the show moving.

I've always loved these annual ratings so much, but to be honest, they're starting to get a little boring. I thought it might be more interesting this year, with so many new songs, but in the end, there wasn't much change, the top 10 was almost exactly the same as last year and the years before. I think the problem is that there are songs that most of the fanbase rates with 10/10, even though those songs aren't actually #1 for most fans. For example, I love "Nobody's Home" and always give it 10 points, but I don't think it's ever been my #1 song. In fact, it's not even always in the top 10. There are songs that are even better imo. But I still couldn't give NH less than 10. This idea might sound a little crazy (and might be better fitted in another thread, or even its own thread?) but I've been thinking that it would be interesting if every fan created a ranking of their own, and thus we could calculate the average ranking. I even found this Avril Song Battle game on tumblr, which creates a ranking for you. It's not up to date, unfortunately, HAW is still missing, and it doesn't include b-sides or unofficially released songs or anything like that. Just the first five albums, and HYRM and "Bad Reputation" for some reason. But it's still pretty cool, and takes about 15 minutes if you do it quickly. Here's the link.
Btw, this tumblr account has loads of song battles for other artists, too, just search #songask.

Btw, this tumblr account has loads of song battles for other artists, too, just search #songask. I think that's exactly why the rankings come out the way they do. It's about how much do we like that particular song, not is it better than her other songs. I think that skews it some. I think our personal likes/taste are always going to have an effect on the rankings. It's easy to say "be more critical", but if someone really likes Hello Kitty (10) and someone else really hates it (1), the average of those two will be about what we got (6). Whereas if we all really like a song it will most likely get 10s and 9s and wind up top 10-15. I think if we want to "be more critical" we almost have to have a standard set of things we rank and get a composite score for each song (music, lyrics, singing...). That would, however, take a lot longer to fill out and to create. I don't know if ranks would change, but we would all be ranking it based on a standard vs. "I really like it, it's OK, I hate it" and trying to assign a number to reflect our feeling on it.

Do you really think she's aware that her crowd is so mixed? Because whenever she talks in interviews she sounds so sure that people always want her classics and upbeat songs. TBH I don't think she really knows what the fans want. Like the social media polls where she's asked what song people wanted and she went with her choice in the end. She does what she thinks is cool and safe. Or in HAWs case she mentioned that she had a lot of ballads (Zach Sang interview) and that's why the HAW setlist was going to have some down moments. I think shes aware of it, because even for her last tour, the AL tour, After the first show her fans trended something like "Change the setlist avril". And I know that she saw/knew of the tag, and she always says that her fans always love the album tracks. So i think she often takes the singles cause theyre fun to perform, since the nostalgia fans also knows them. Breakaway and KHO was "treats" for fans on this tour definitely
